Acylindrically hyperbolic groups

چکیده
We say that a group G is acylindrically hyperbolic if it admits a non-elementary acylindrical action on a hyperbolic space. We prove that the class of acylindrically hyperbolic groups coincides with many other classes studied in the literature, e.g., the class Cgeom introduced by Hamenstädt, the class of groups admitting a non-elementary weakly properly discontinuous action on a hyperbolic space in the sense of Bestvina and Fujiwara, and the class of groups with hyperbolically embedded subgroups studied by Dahmani, Guirardel, and the author. We also record some basic results about acylindrically hyperbolic groups for future use. MSC Subject Classification: 20F67, 20F65.

Commensurating Endomorphisms of Acylindrically Hyperbolic Groups and Applications
We prove that the outer automorphism group Out(G) is residually finite when the group G is virtually compact special (in the sense of Haglund and Wise) or when G is isomorphic to the fundamental group of some compact 3-manifold. To prove these results we characterize commensurating endomorphisms of acylindrically hyperbolic groups. An endomorphism φ of a group G is said to be commensurating, if...
متن کاملA Note on Acylindrical Hyperbolicity of Mapping Class Groups
The aim of this note is to give the simplest possible proof that Mapping Class Groups of closed hyperbolic surfaces are acylindrically hyperbolic, and more specifically that their curve graphs are hyperbolic and that pseudo-Anosovs act on them as loxodromic WPDs.

متن کاملDivergence in Lattices in Semisimple Lie Groups and Graphs of Groups
Divergence functions of a metric space estimate the length of a path connecting two points A, B at distance ≤ n avoiding a large enough ball around a third point C. We characterize groups with non-linear divergence functions as groups having cut-points in their asymptotic cones. That property is weaker than the property of having Morse (rank 1) quasi-geodesics. Using our characterization of Mor...
متن کاملA ug 2 00 4 ACYLINDRICAL ACCESSIBILITY FOR GROUPS ACTING ON R - TREES
We prove an acylindrical accessibility theorem for finitely generated groups acting on R-trees. Namely, we show that if G is a freely indecomposable non-cyclic k-generated group acting minimally and D-acylindrically on an R-tree X then there is a finite subtree Tε ⊆ X of measure at most 2D(k − 1) + ε such that GTε = X. This generalizes theorems of Z. Sela and T. Delzant about actions on simplic...
